Co-Admin ~some-art-bum speaking!

You guys may have already noticed some of the small changes we've been making around here, among them a little bit or reordering in our moderation. We hope that these changes will help the club run more smoothly.

So, okay, let's get to the updates.

First, with our new organization we have need of one more mod (and JUST one). Your duties as a mod would be to update the club gallery with submissions and add new members on a given day you are assigned. More about how to do these will be explained once you have been recruited.

If you would like to fill this position send a note to the club with a little bit about yourself and why you think you would be a good addition to the moderation team. Please only apply if you are prepared to be active.

For now applications will be open until next Sunday, thanks in advance for your interest.

With that out of the way let's move on to something a little more fun. Mod ~Textile-Goddess is running a contest for the month of October. You can find information about it on our Contests Journal. But here's a little teaser I copy/pasted for it ;)

Hello everyone!
I thought it was about time for a new contest! Being in the holiday spirit it will be a halloween contest.
The theme being: pumpkin. It can be a real pumpkin, fake pumpkin, a jack-o-lantern, ect.

Please check the contest journal for complete rules and information. Thanks!

We hope to see a lot of entries from you guys.

Two of our other mods are also plotting future events, so keep tuned for those! Updates will be posted to the club journal when they are available.

Our rules underwent a few changes recently. The biggest change is that we are now allowing the 27cm Volks Dollfie/Obitsu dolls in our gallery submissions. What are these, you ask? Well, we've already got one submission in our gallery that is a prime example!

So if any of you guys own these kinds of dolls and have either been turned down in the past or were unsure about sharing them, feel free to send submissions with them as well. (You are still, however, limited to two submissions per week only.)

I can only think of one more thing to put into this update for now. So here goes~

The moderation team would like to invite all of you guys to put together and submit tutorials for the club. These can be in whatever format you would like. They will be added to the gallery like normal submissions and put into a special folder.

We feel that these could be a real good source of information for members who are new to BJD in general or new to customization (or those of us who aren't so new but still have questions! I know I always end up browsing tutorials for new tips~).

Tutorial submissions will NOT count against your two per week submissions, but please do not take advantage of this and flood us with a million of them at once.

Okay, hope you guys all had a great weekend! Peace out~

Edit August 6th; ~some-art-bum

Hi, everyone, I can't believe this didn't occur to me before, but I want to advertise something wonderful that =kawaiimon is doing for the DA BJD community. If you haven't already you should stop by her page and check out her Mega BJD Feature Project. What she is attempting to do is feature every BJD photographer on the site!

So if you haven't already go check and see if you're up. If you're not she's asking you to comment on the entry that corresponds to the letter of your username (for instance, my doll account ~l-g-h is the letter "L," and would be under the journal for usernames "I-P."

(Note: You may have to look at her past entries to find the appropriate journal for your username.)

I hope everyone will take advantage of this project, not only for the exposure, but also as a chance to check out some DA accounts you've never seen before!

Hello, this is moderator ~some-art-bum speaking. First of all, thank you everyone for how patient you have been with us while we've been working to get the club up to speed again.

Major changes to the club are probably going to be put off at the moment. Our admin will hopefully be back towards the middle of August, and then we can really begin to move things again. Several of the mods have some interesting ideas that we hope to implement. So expect some new exciting things towards the end of August (and maybe even before, but I'm not going to promise you guys anything there).

But on to the real meat of this update. We had previously closed down submissions for a bit while we worked on backlog and just getting ourselves sorted out. I believe we're ready to accept them again now. So they're open again. But with the new policy that we voted on in a previous poll to the club. The policy is this:

2 submissions ONLY per member a week. These can be any combination of submissions (drawing, photos), but ONLY two. This will help us keep from overloading ourselves and from bumping people off too quickly so that everyone gets a chance to be seen by other club members, and that's really the purpose of submissions, yes?

______________________________________

Okay, I have one thing that isn't strictly related to the club but is related to the doll community. I like to think of the community as supportive, and I like to think that this club is full of people who consider themselves to be part of that community.

I say this because a doll owner that I know personally is currently having some trouble with medical bills as a person who has not had health insurance from their new job kick in and is facing surgery that cannot be put off. Her bills are already over $1000 and she's only had tests so far.

I'm going to link to her LiveJournal entry which tells more about the situation and let her speak for herself. If you can, please consider donating a little to help her pay these bills. (And if you can't it's okay, it's hard times for everyone yeah?)

Please do NOT feel like you have to click this link just because it is in the club journal. Nor do you HAVE to donate because you are part of the club. I'm simply posting this here to help get word around about a fellow person in the doll community who could use help.

Also, if you could spread word about this, it would be helpful as well :3

[And do remember, if you have events, clubs, or even something like this that you would like advertised in the club journals please do let us know!]

Okay, guys, that's all I've got. As always if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, feel free to note the club or one of the mods about it. Feedback is always welcome.

(If any of you other mods think of anything I forgot feel free to edit.)

JULY 31ST UPDATE FROM THE LONG-DEAD "ADMIN":

Although I don't really deserve to call myself that after the long absence. -.- Apologies for the lack of EVERYTHING on my behalf - long story; dead internet, exams (over now luckily, lol.), and the fact i'm actually abroad at the moment with limited internet access. Just wanted to say a quick thank you to all the mods for everything they've done, and also welcome to the new mods! You have all been GREAT and i know I made NO mistake in taking the step to appoint moderators, thank you all SO much! I will be back home on the 14th of august with NEW, FAST internet and a new laptop, and then (hopefully), everything will be up and running better than before! Thank you for all bearing with me and keeping the club going!

This is :icontoychild: speaking.

After completely forgetting the pw to this account and then getting it from ~chibi-driger (thank you for the work you did while the rest of us laid dead) I went to work and put up the new members and the new submissions up like a madman (kicking off other mods that came on as I went).

But on to more important subjects...I am hesitant in making this journal, but I would like to start a new journal to freshen some things up since the last journal was getting a bit stuffy...

Here are some important points I want the members to look at:

:star: please make sure that, if you watched this club recently, you're on the members list because I may have accidentally missed you or something. Please note the club if you don't see yourself there.

:star: Submitted a piece but haven't seen it up yet? Note us again! As excellent workers as we are, we can miss things. Also, note us about any errors like broken or wrong links and etc C:

:star: =checkered-fadora Has been wanting to see if anyone would be interested in a "Blind Date". I'm not sure of the detail, but I'm pretty sure she would love to come and edit this journal for more details C: and hopefully she can put up a poll because I don't know how to do it lol

:star: And another thing. As a mod with a(n internet) life, I forget to check up on this so if there is something really urgent, do not be afraid to note me personally if you do not get a reply in 24hours.

now as toychild, I'm done kicking the others out XD

-- Edit from ~some-art-bum: And you DID kick me out too XDDD~

Okay, I want to make a clarification here. Mod ~chibi-driger and I have talked a bit and decided that it would be a good idea to keep a haitus on new submissions for a moment.

As ~toychild already mentioned, if you had already sent a submission but don't see it up, go ahead and resubmit. But please, everyone else, hold off for a little while. We will have an update when we feel ready to take in a flood of new submissions again.

Also, you can feel free to note me (~some-art-bum) personally about things as well as ~toychild. I check DA daily . . . since my personal dev watch gets out of hand if I don't >_> *cough* It was at 2k once when I let it get out of hand, I do not kid.

Thank you all for being patient with us mods :3

Edit 7/22, ~some-art-bum

I think we as mods have been lax about notifying people they have been added to the club (I know at least I have been). I'm going to try, at least personally, to keep up with it from this point out. The purpose of this message is to address those people who have been in limbo.

However, everyone who has friended the club (this is our requirement for joining) up to this point has been added to the members list! So no worries, you guys are in!~

Also, we've got two new mods people. Welcome =kyusai and =daysi-wolf, please make them feel welcome. :3

Although I am sure there are more of you who would like to help, at the moment we would like to refrain from taking on any more moderators. When we get the moderators reorganized we will *probably* be taking on a few more for specific tasks. When this happens we will ask for volunteers in a journal update. So if you want to become a moderator as well, please wait till then to offer your services. Thanks~

Brand New FAQ--Yeah!

What are BJD?

BJD is an acronym that stands for 'ball-joint doll.' BJD are simply that, dolls with ball-joints. These give them many points of articulation, which allow for them to be posed to a greater degree than many other types of dolls. A majority of them are made by Asian-based companies (Chinese, Korean, Japanese), but there are a few companies in other places that are beginning to make them as well as many companies who affiliate with the Asian companies but are based in other countries.

These dolls are made of resin and strung together with elastic. They are highly customizable. Owners often repaint them, change their wigs and eyes, and even modify the original sculpt.

We have also made the decision to include Dollfie Dream dolls, which are similar though made of vinyl along with the vinyl Obitsu molds.

What are Dollfie, how are they different from BJD?

Dollfie are the 27cm Volks dolls that are articulated like action figures. They usually have rooted hair, as opposed to doll wigs. Obitsu 27cm figures are included with Dollfie for the purposes of this club.

The staff of this club has decided to include them as well, even if they are not really BJD. The spirit of customization and creativity between dollfie and BJD are the same and we wish to support it.

The main difference (other than the fact that most BJD are larger, but not all) is in the joints. BJD are made up of hollow pieces which are held together by elastic string. Dollfies snap together, and though some of their joints are similar to ball-joints so they can slide, they are not quite the same. Dollfies are made of vinyl.

(They're also quite a bit less expensive.)

How do I join the club?

This is listed clearly on the Club Information journal, but people still seem to have some problems figuring it out so I'm going to spell it out here too.

To join the club you need to do is add it to your deviantwatch. That's it. The mods will see that you have watched it and add you to the member list. You can send a note if you like, but it's unnecessary and just makes more stuff for the administration to sort through ^^;;

[This said, if you would like to watch the club but do NOT want to be a member you have two options. Either send us a note explaining you only want to watch or just bookmark the club and check in on us from time to time . . . . ]

How do I know I've been added as a member to the club?

Your icon will appear at the end of the the giant Member List [this may be really difficult on slow Internet connections]. It is currently in order of join-date.

Generally, if you watch the club then you can consider yourself a member, even if we haven't got to updating the member list yet.

What is there to do now that I've joined the club?

You can read more about the current club activities at this journal: [link] .

I think you might have missed my gallery submission, can I send it again?

If you haven't seen your submission up in about a week, feel free to resubmit it. It's quite possibly that either DeviantART ate it or we just missed it. This does happen from time to time.

I have a complaint about one of the administrators/moderators, who do I talk to?

Please send a note to either the Admin, ~unpredictably or one of the Co-Admins ~some-art-bum and ~KoKian if you have a complaint that you need to discuss. These will be kept anonymous.

I have a question or complaint about something club related, who do I talk to?

All club-related questions or complaints can be sent by note to the club account, =bjd-club.

I have an idea or a suggestion for the club, who can I send it to?

We welcome ideas and suggestions from all of our members! You can send those by note to the club account, =bjd-club.

If you have any other questions that have not been addressed here see the following steps:

1.) Make sure it is not answered either in the Club Information or Club Activities journals.

2.) If it is note then send a note to the club account, =bjd-club, with your question. We will answer it as soon as we are able.

So, what is there to do here?

1.) Featured Doll. For a 2 - week period, one doll will be selected as the featured doll and will have their own article spread with questions (like an interview), and a feature on the club journal.

[Run by Admin ~unpredictably. All questions about this activity should be addressed to her.]

2.) 'Monthly Story.' [How this will operate is currently being reworked, but it will return soon!]

3.) A monthly 'theme', and everyone who wants can submit a photo following the theme. The theme will usually be random, and with no restrictions (as long as club rules are followed)

Current Theme: We have not chosen a theme yet, but will soon.

4.) Submissions, of course! As long as your pictures follow the rules, you can submit up to 2 submissions a week (number may change in the future.)

To submit simply send us a note titled "Submission" with a link to the deviation(s) you wish to submit. (Please note, they must be your own photos.)

5.) Contests!

Current Contests: None

6.) Post in our forums~!

Coming Soon!

1.) Blind Date. This activity will possibly be coming soon. It is something that Mod =checkered-fadora has been thinking on for awhile. More details will be available at a later time.

2.) Best of BJD-Club. This is a in-the-works photography monthly that is going to be run by Mod =Salacia-Mao. More details will be available soon.
